Biography
The Springs channel the tuneful, harmony-rich country-pop of Lady Antebellum and Little Big Town yet stand apart as a married duo. Alabama natives Stewart and Holly Halcomb crossed paths in Nashville while each pursued a career in the Music City. They soon wed and launched the Springs, modeling their style after the polished country-pop that dominated radio at the start of the 2010s. Their initial chart success arrived with the 2016 EP Dance with Me, whose title track “Dance with Me” became their first hit and helped propel the follow-up album Old Fashioned onto Billboard’s Heatseekers chart in June 2018.
Those roots trace back to an earlier iteration of the Springs that also included Stewart Halcomb. Formed as a teen Christian country-pop ensemble by Stewart’s father, businessman Randy Halcomb, the group originated after Randy observed Stewart performing with fellow Future Farmers of America members and briefly explored creating a reality television series around casting such an act. Although the show never aired, the Springs materialized, drawing many of its six members from Stewart’s high school. The sextet gained notice in Christian music with the 2008 album Teens on a Mission; Stewart Halcomb’s composition “Mommy’s Little Man,” issued as a single, climbed to number one on Power Source’s Christian country chart and earned the band the Youth in Music Award at the 2008 Inspirational Country Music Awards.
That lineup dissolved within three years, prompting Stewart Halcomb to relocate from Enterprise, Alabama, to Nashville in pursuit of secular success. There he encountered aspiring vocalist Holly Helms from New Market, Alabama, at the Bluebird Café. Helms had recently advanced to the third round of preliminaries for NBC’s The Voice. Their 2011 meeting sparked both a romance and a musical alliance; the pair established the Springs in 2013, married in 2015, and Holly adopted Stewart’s surname.
The Springs issued their self-titled debut on CFC Productions in June 2014. The Country Music Association named them Emerging Artist of 2016, and that June they released the EP Dance with Me, whose title song peaked at number 42 on Billboard’s country chart. Their second album, Old Fashioned, followed in June 2018.
