The Street People

A New Jersey ensemble produced by Ray Dahrouge issued its debut single on Spring Records in 1974. Titled “I Wanna Get Over,” the track failed to gain traction, prompting Dahrouge to move the act to Vigor Records, where five singles and one album appeared between 1974 and 1977. The lineup consisted of Roy Daniels, Milton Daniels, Tom Williams, Joe Gardner, and Rick Johnson. Aimed at dance floors, the first Vigor release, “Never Get Enough Of Your Love,” was succeeded in 1976 by “You’re My One Weakness Girl.” Their third effort, “I Wanna Spend My Whole Life With You,” met with indifference. Success arrived regionally with the fourth single, “I Wanna Slow Dance With You Baby,” which remains the group’s best-remembered recording. A final release pairing “Liberated Lady” with “Rerun From An Old Time Movie” went unnoticed, after which the members parted ways. Their only album, Street People, compiles every Vigor single. Prior to joining the ensemble, Joe Gardner had sung with the Valtairs alongside Harry Ray of the Moments and Ray, Goodman & Brown.
