Born July 25, 1977, in Estonia, Andres Andrekson later earned recognition across Switzerland as the rap phenomenon Stress. His father departed early, leaving the family behind, yet his mother insisted on scholastic achievement, a standard he met without hesitation. At twelve he relocated to Switzerland, where he fused academic discipline with an emerging devotion to hip-hop, channeling verbal precision and relentless effort into original lyrics and a distinctive approach. Under the stage name Stress he entered the studio for the first time in 1995 as a member of the group Double Pact on the album Impact N°3. Together with fellow member Nega he shaped French rap over the next several years, issuing four albums before the collective dissolved following the 2002 release Rien a Perdre. Both artists turned to solo work in 2003. Stress issued his initial solo effort under the alias Billy Bear, an album that, like Eminem’s Slim Shady persona, balanced playful humor with satirical elements. After the project’s strong reception he stepped away from music, having earned his degree from HEC Lausanne and begun a career in business. The pause proved brief; his marriage and its swift dissolution prompted a return, with songwriting and performance serving as outlets for personal turmoil. On Valentine’s Day 2005 he delivered his second solo album, 25.07.03, which entered the Swiss charts at number three and surpassed 40,000 copies sold, securing his first gold certification. Subsequent collaboration requests multiplied, establishing him among Switzerland’s most prominent rappers. His third solo album, Renaissance, arrived in February 2007 and attained platinum status within two months.
