Maverick Canadian punk rockers the Subhumans (distinct from their British namesakes) came together in Vancouver around an original lineup of vocalist Brian Goble (aka Wimpy Roy), guitarist Mike Graham, drummer Ken Montgomery (aka Dimwit), and bass player Gerry Hannah (aka Gerry Useless). Their debut performance took place on July 1, 1978, the same year they issued the single “Death to the Sickoids.” Montgomery departed in 1979 and was succeeded by Jim Imagawa, who appeared on both the self-titled EP and the landmark Incorrect Thoughts LP. The 1981 album No Wishes, No Prayers marked the exit of Imagawa and Hannah, who were replaced by bassist Ron Allan and drummer Randy Bowman; this configuration dissolved the next year when the band split. A 1995 reunion promoted the retrospective Pissed Off...with Good Reason!, while a 2006 return produced the fresh studio release New Dark Age Parade on Alternative Tentacles, reuniting Goble, Graham, and Hannah alongside drummer Jon Card (SNFU, D.O.A.). Surging interest in a CD edition of their debut prompted Alternative Tentacles to prepare a reissue of Incorrect Thoughts, yet the original members could not establish legal ownership. Rather than litigate, the group cut a new rendering of the album, issued in 2010 as Same Thoughts Different Day. Jon Card passed away on April 8, 2024, at age 63.
