Biography
Representing Iowa City, a modest urban spot buried in the heart of the Midwest and maximally distant from either coast, the Sucka MCs produce rap that deliberately diverges from standard rap conventions. This Midwestern collective of white performers, known by the playful monikers Coolzey, Dr. Don, the Warden, the Worm, and DJ Damn Them Balls Are Tasty, creates hip-hop yet prioritizes light-hearted comedy over conventional approaches. Their first release, the 1997 album Steppin' in Shit, remained confined to regional recognition. In 2002 the Sucka MCs reemerged with Da Album, secured a recording contract through Ace Fu, and arranged promotional support via Midnight Feeding in Brooklyn. ~ Jason Birchmeier
