Formed by guitarist and vocalist Anna Greenaway, drumming prodigy Jodie Wyatt, and lead guitarist Matt Bolton, the British pop-punk outfit the Sugars stepped onto the major stage in March 2006. Their entry into recorded music came via the single "Doo-Wop (Sugar So Sweet)," issued under the auspices of Bad Sneakers, a venue-turned-label that began life as a weekly club night at the Faversham and quickly anchored the Leeds scene. That imprint’s inaugural signing was the hometown act the Sugars. Drawing on mid-century stylings exemplified by Bobby "Blue" Bland and Jackie Wilson alongside the punk and new-wave sounds of the early 1980s, the unconventional trio rapidly ascended the city’s live-rock ranks. Despite issuing only a modest number of follow-up singles—among them "Monsters" and "Beep Beep"—the group registered across national charts in multiple European territories. Momentum continues to build toward their first full-length album.
