Biography
New York-based Southern rock revivalists the Suntanama present a paradoxical sound built around vocalist Darren Zoltowski, guitarists Keith Connolly and John Allen, bassist Dave Shuford, and drummer Robert Gregory. Shuford and Connolly also belong to the acclaimed free folk outfit the No-Neck Blues Band. The group issued its first recording in 2001, the 7" The Wishing Song/Roll On on New World of Sound, which showcased their blend of folk, blues, and boogie rock. Their self-titled debut album, produced by Neil Hagerty, appeared the following year on Drag City; they returned in 2003 with Another. That same year the band contributed to You Can Never Go Fast Enough, a tribute to the classic gearhead film Two Lane Blacktop that also included tracks by Wilco, Sonic Youth, Calexico, and Charalambides.
