Functioning more as an artistic endeavor than a typical musical outfit, the offbeat Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players source their lyrics exclusively from vintage slides documenting strangers’ family vacations. Keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist Jason Trachtenburg, slide projector/costume designer Tina Piña Trachtenburg, and preteen drummer Rachel Piña Trachtenburg form the trio, which maintains a nomadic routine by driving between performances at varied venues and rarely lingering in either of its base cities, Seattle or New York City. Because of this constant movement, Rachel—who took up drumming at age six—enrolls at an alternative school located in Seattle. The Trachtenburgs have served as openers for They Might Be Giants and hold the distinction of being the first unsigned act invited to perform on Late Night With Conan O'Brien. Their debut album, Vintage Slide Collections from Seattle, Vol. 1, later received an official release through Bar/None Records.
