Biography
Originating from the longstanding musical traditions of Poland's Tatra Mountain area, the Trebunia Family Band has built its sound upon these ancient elements. Honored with Fryderyk music awards, the Polish counterpart to the Grammys, during 1995 and 1996, the ensemble has expanded the artistic scope of its native region. The 1997 release Janosik in Sherwood, crafted under the production of Adrian Sherwood, climbed to the ninth position on the European world music charts. As one of the nation's most longstanding musical lineages, the Trebunias trace their roots to great-grandfather Stanislaw Budz-Lepsiok, who belonged to Bartus Okrachta and collaborated with prominent Polish composers Karol Szymanowski and Mieczysaw Kartowicz. The group persists in highlighting the family's artistic abilities. Comprising brothers Jasiek, Krzysztof, and Stanislaw Jr., along with sister Hania, the lineup includes father Stanislaw Sr. handling violin, flute, and supporting vocals, plus Hania's spouse Andrzej performing on violin and double bass. Primary composition duties fall to eldest son Krzysztof, who also reworks conventional folk melodies. Their most prominent international recognition arrived through partnerships with the Jamaican roots reggae outfit Twinkle Brothers, yielding the albums Higher Heights in 1994 and Come Back Twinkle to Trebunia Family two years afterward. Subsequent alliances with Wlodzimierz Kiniorski's Future Sound produced Highlanders Apo-Calypso and Etno Techno. The Trebunia Family Band members maintain equilibrium between their musical pursuits and occupations in painting and knitting.
