Biography
Although four members of the Oklahoma City sextet the Uglysuit had performed together since their teenage years, it was not until a decade afterward—while still in their early twenties—that Matt Harrison (bass, guitar), Crosby Bray (vocals, drums, guitar), Colin Bray (vocals, guitar), Jonathan Martin (vocals, piano, organ, guitar), Israel Hindman (vocals, guitar), and Kyle Mayfield (vocals, guitar, bass, drums) first drew wider attention. Their bright and breezy sound, reminiscent of fellow Oklahoma City band the Flaming Lips, drew the interest of Quarterstick Records, which signed the Uglysuit in 2008. The group promptly began work on its debut album, targeting a release before the end of that year. The Uglysuit also performed at the Summer Camp Festival and shared bills with Iron & Wine. In August 2008, the band issued its self-titled debut.
