Vermont outfit the Urgency fuse the grand stage drama and intricate melodies of classic progressive rock with a ferocious metal guitar onslaught, pushing for maximum sonic and visual impact at every turn. Bassist Kevin Coffrin and guitarist Ian Molla anchored the group from the start, having performed together since their preteen years. They encountered drummer Guerin Blask while attending college in upstate New York, then relocated to New York City, where an exhaustive hunt for a vocalist led them to cabaret singer Tyler Gurwicz, whose technical command and theatrical flair proved ideal. Fans and supporters consistently single out Gurwicz’s vocal abilities as the element that sets the Urgency apart. Guitarist Ryan Siegel completed the lineup last, arriving as a former member of Long Island prog-metal act the Rivalry. MySpace unexpectedly opened doors when a “fan” message reached producer David Bendeth (Vertical Horizon, All Time Low, Paramore), sparking a collaboration; Bendeth recognized their promise and guided sessions for their debut release on Mercury/Island/Def Jam. While reviews have varied, audiences turned out in force for the 2007 Warped Tour, rapidly expanding the band’s following.
