Vacations emerged in 2015 as an Australian indie rock outfit from Newcastle, New South Wales, centered on vocalist, guitarist, and chief songwriter Campbell Burns. The group began with a self-released debut EP titled Days that same year, featuring bassist Jake Johnson and drummer Harrison Chapman, and capitalized on a raw, low-budget approach that lent the recordings a spontaneous, unvarnished character. By the follow-up EP Vibes in 2016, the lineup had stabilized around Burns, Johnson, lead guitarist Nate Delizzotti, and drummer Joseph Van Lier. The track “Young” from that release gained sudden traction after circulating widely on social platforms, driving substantial streaming figures and prompting extensive live dates. In 2017 a combined compact-disc reissue paired the two early EPs.

The band’s first proper album, Changes, arrived in 2018 and yielded another major success with “Telephones,” enabling headline shows in sizable Australian and British venues as well as a U.S. introduction at the South by Southwest Festival. A standalone single, “On Your Own,” preceded the 2020 sophomore LP Forever in Bloom, though pandemic restrictions curtailed touring plans. During that period Burns stayed home composing fresh material and constructing a personal studio; once finished, the space hosted the three-song EP Terms & Conditions, issued in July 2023 and anchored by the title track alongside the singles “Midwest” and “Next Exit.”

Having moved to Los Angeles, and drawing from a recent obsessive-compulsive disorder diagnosis, Burns guided the band through its third album, No Place Like Home, released in 2024. Across these projects Vacations refined an interplay of guitar and electronic keyboards within a smooth surface that absorbed elements of lo-fi indie pop and 1980s alternative music, progressing from early naturalistic recordings to more polished studio work.
