Biography
The southern Netherlands served as the birthplace for the Very Girls, who laid down tracks for their debut self-titled record during 1997. Aggie de Kruijf and Ankie Keultjes, known professionally as Aggie and Ankie, relocated to the United States in the years that followed, establishing themselves as regulars within Houston's folk community. The Roches, Nanci Griffith, and Emmylou Harris have been cited as points of comparison for the pair, whose harmonious vocals earned acclaim across Europe and North America alike. Elsewhere Bound arrived in 2002 as the ensemble's follow-up full-length. English remains the language of choice for performances by this Dutch act. Folk events and gatherings of many kinds have hosted the Very Girls, among them Anderson Fair in Houston.
