The quartet known as the Vibration delivers a gritty indie rock aesthetic through the contributions of Randie Williams on guitar, Allison Veronica Esposito on drums, Antonia Salerno on bass, and Ann Fitzgerald on vocals. Inspired by riot grrrl, the group first convened in 2001, though a relocation by Fitzgerald to San Francisco halted their activities until 2002. At that point, they adopted the name the Vibration and commenced songwriting. Their initial EP, Ear to the Ground, offered an autobiographical account of band life; this self-released effort quickly sold out domestically before receiving a 2004 reissue via the British imprint Sink and Stove. In the same year, the Vibration contributed "Sweet Oil" to a split 7" single shared with Mirah on Third Story Records. Summer 2005 saw the arrival of Amarilla as their first full-length album, after which they performed with the Decemberists, Rilo Kiley, Mirah, Tilly and the Wall, and We Ragazzi through the close of the year.
