Essex-based harmony quintet The Wards of Court carried strong potential as a British soul act that might have stood alongside the Equals under different conditions. Their sole legacy rests on the single that paired "All Night Girl" with "How Could You Say One Thing," the latter side emerging as the more compelling effort through its driving, stomping soul style that carried clear chart prospects for both the track and the group until those prospects slipped away unnoticed. The same B-side later turned up on the compilation CD The Mod Scene.
