Sweden's Wayward Souls produced intelligent, literate indie pop frequently likened to a Scandinavian counterpart of the Go-Betweens, yet the band’s trajectory ended on an unsatisfying note with the 1987 album Nobody Loves The Wayward Souls. Hakan Fagerstedt (drums, vocals), Per Ahlen (vocals), Jonas Asp (bass, guitar, vocals) and Henrik Rosencrantz (guitar) came together in 1983 and quickly earned admiration from critics throughout Europe and the USA. Their persistent failure to translate that praise into commercial sales nevertheless overshadowed the entire career. Junk Food Kings On Diet marked an intense attempt to enlarge the group’s cult following, but the campaign proved unsuccessful. The quartet reconvened in 1994 to satisfy a devoted audience that had never lost its fondness for the music from the band’s 1980s height.
