Morgan Nagler, serving as vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter while also carrying a background as a former child actor, fronted the indie rock group Whispertown 2000, which began under the earlier name Vagtown 2000. Initially conceived as a solo outlet, the project expanded into a full band near 2004 after Nagler was encouraged to write and perform by her friend Blake Sennett of Rilo Kiley; both Sennett and Jenny Lewis aided her progress toward musical recognition. The early duo of Nagler and Tod Adrian Wisenbaker, still operating as Vagtown 2000, made their live debut supporting Sennett’s side project the Elected, then gathered independent momentum by revising the band name and recruiting additional players. Reconfigured as a four-piece, Whispertown 2000 maintained a steady touring pace that preceded the release of their 2006 album Livin’ in a Dream, which incorporated contributions from Jenny Lewis and Blake Sennett. In 2008 the group followed its rigorous road schedule with the album Swim.
