Providence, Rhode Island’s White Mice pursue a noisy, experimental strain of grindcore using nothing beyond bass, drums, and an oscillator. The band heightens the demented presentation by performing in mouse costumes that resemble laboratory specimens barely alive and smeared with blood. Observers therefore maintain that only a live setting conveys the group’s complete effect, a viewpoint reinforced by past co-bills alongside Dropdead and Lightning Bolt. The lineup—Mouseferatu, Euronymouse, and Anonymouse—issued multiple self-released studio and concert recordings, among them the 2004 titles Mouse of Mendes and the holiday album Do They Know It’s Christmice?, before signing with Load Records and delivering Assphixxxeatateshun in 2005. Their second release for the label, BLasssTPhlEgMEICE, surfaced in February 2007.
