Hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, the Whitsundays craft a style rooted in 1960s sunshine pop and gentle psychedelia while also nodding to current indie pop. Their roster underscores that range, with lead singer and principal songwriter Paul Arnusch doubling as a member of acclaimed dream pop combo the Faunts and post-punk revivalists the Floor, bassist Lyle Bell and drummer Clint Frazier splitting their efforts with frenetic electronic dance-rock outfit Shout Out Out Out Out, guitarist Dave Swanson, and Doug Organ on keyboards. Arnusch launched the band to honor earlier pop eras and put his expanding stock of vintage keyboards and guitars to use; by the first months of 2007 the group had begun building an audience in Canada and farther afield for its clever neo-retro approach, completing a debut record before the year closed that appeared in January 2008 via Friendly Fire Recordings in the United States and Pop Echo Records in Canada.
