Biography
Originating in York, Pennsylvania, the Wild Hymns surfaced in the mid-2010s by fusing enchanting folk-pop and earthy Americana with strands of gypsy jazz and rock & roll. Through successive albums including 2016's This Burning Love and 2022's Eternal Return, the music grew denser while placing greater weight on rock and dream pop inflections.
What started as a solo project from singer/songwriter Megan Woodland Hewitt later expanded into a collaborative unit that incorporated her husband, guitarist Jeff Hewitt, and a complete band. After the 2014 self-titled debut, the Wild Hymns toured regionally to cement their identity and grow an audience. The sophomore LP, 2016's This Burning Love, arrived with a more fully developed sound, after which 2018's Stories with the Moon adopted a folk-pop approach that was more textured and dreamy. The same direction shaped the fourth release, 2022's sonically expansive and rock-based Eternal Return.
