Formed in 2000 in Dearborn, Michigan, the Wrenfields deliver an energetic brand of alternative country that routinely draws comparisons to the Jayhawks, early Wilco, and Lucinda Williams. The six-piece lineup includes Noreen Novrocki on lead vocals, John Pyro on drums and lead vocals, Tom Morgan on lead guitar and vocals, Frank Budd on bass, harmonica, and vocals, Dave Berriman on keyboards and vocals, and Matt O'Bryan on rhythm guitar and vocals; all six previously performed with Detroit-area groups such as Miracleberries and Killer Flamingos. The Wrenfields’ seasoned roster has also shared stages with Chuck Berry, Mitch Ryder, Spencer Davis, Sponge, and Tony Orlando. Detroit’s Metro Times once hailed them as the city’s “favorite alt-country group.” The band tracked its debut album, 21st Century Pioneer, at its own Compound Studios in Dearborn and issued the record in August 2001, with Tyler Brown (Mark Olson, Victoria Williams) serving as producer.
