The Seattle-based art rock duo the Youngs consists of the married couple Timothy Young on guitar and vocals and Eryn Young on drums and vocals. The pair first crossed paths at Cornish College of the Arts in 1992, at which time Timothy was 23 and Eryn was 17, and they quickly began collaborating musically, starting out in a jazz ensemble. Eryn continued her studies in music at Cornish through 1995, whereas Timothy pursued a range of projects across Seattle, performing both with assorted local groups and alongside figures such as David Sylvian and Bill Frisell. In 1999 Eryn relocated to Seattle, where the two developed a romantic relationship that led to marriage. When Timothy received an invitation to appear at the O.K. Hotel, he enlisted Eryn on drums; she acquired a $100 toy drum set specifically for the performance. Satisfied with how the set turned out, they established themselves as a permanent act under the name the Youngs. Their first album, The Youngs, appeared on the Web of Mimicry label in October 2004.
