Biography
Daniel Peppe and Steve White constitute this British breakbeat duo. Peppe first established himself playing bass for Agent Provocateur on the prominent Wall Of Sound imprint, where he encountered White after the latter was recruited to handle guitar duties during live dates. Both musicians later contributed to Jon Carter’s Monkey Mafia venture in the late 90s, while White separately collaborated with Underworld’s Karl Hyde and Bill Drummond of the KLF.
Under the Themroc moniker—derived from Claude Faraldo’s 1972 avant garde French film—the pair issued their initial recordings in 2000. Their opening EPs, The Themroc EP and Frozen, targeted the breakbeat community directly and received enthusiastic club support. For the full-length debut Beyond These Things the duo pursued broader ambitions, drawing on electro, house, breakbeat, techno and ambient palettes. The set contained the widely praised singles ‘Bloodline’ and ‘Gold Is Your Metal’, earned endorsement from Pete Tong and was named Mixmag’s Essential Album.
Peppe’s widely publicised relationship with broadcaster Zoë Ball, spouse of Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim, diverted attention from the album’s arrival. Extensive tabloid reporting thrust both Peppe and, by extension, Themroc into the spotlight until the story subsided.
