Brooklyn noise dance trio These Are Powers unites energetic frontwoman and guitarist Anna Barie (Knife Skills, Fxxxing Lion) with bassist Pat Noecker (n0 things, Liars) and drummer Bill Salas (Brenmar). The group fuses eerie, ramshackle textures into a post-no wave style the members call “ghost punk.” Barie’s stage presence—sometimes moaning, sometimes shrieking while rolling and writhing among the audience at the band’s live shows—had already generated blog attention before the release of its debut EP, Taro Tarot. Following an extensive 2007 U.S. tour, the trio secured a contract with Hoss Records, relocated to Chicago, and tracked its first full-length album, Terrific Seasons.
