Biography
Hailing from Leeds, Thick Syrup produces intense riff-driven rock whose edge comes largely from vocalist Gemma Fleet’s sharp delivery. Guy, Paul, and Tom launched the project in 2013 after logging time in the city’s punk and hardcore circles; seeking a new direction, they drew from the Meters, Black Sabbath, and Shocking Blue. Organist Dom Berry joined the founding trio in 2014, after which the group started looking for a singer the next year. Upon discovering Fleet—who had previously appeared with the Wharves, Trogons, and Kasms—the endeavor adopted the name Thick Syrup. Gringo Records issued the band’s first album, Living in Leeds, in 2018.
