Comprising vocalist Callum Finn together with guitarist and programmer Jamie Purdie plus bassist Milo Craig, Thinkpiece operate as an electronic pop/rock ensemble that moves between the sonic palettes of trip-hop and alternative R&B. The London-based trio came together in the U.K. capital during 2015 and first surfaced with minimal notice, launching their career via the SoundCloud upload of “No Stain” in the opening months of 2016. That release began to circulate among the city’s alternative listeners. Later the same year they issued the follow-up “Voice for Us,” a lyric-driven piece whose themes captured the social fractures, political turbulence, and media saturation that defined the middle and latter portions of 2016. It later emerged that Thinkpiece belonged to the NuBrain arts collective headquartered in London, a network that also includes Elliott Power and Mink along with various filmmakers, visual artists, and other creatives. Parallel to these developments the group built a live presence by playing venues throughout the capital and securing support slots for Matador Records’ alt-electronic outfit Hælos in both August and November 2016. Toward the close of the year they unveiled a third single, “You’re People, You’re Evil,” paired with a music video that probed questions surrounding virtual reality.
