Thom Bishop holds a Cable Ace Award along with a golden record, yet his reputation across the music industry rests chiefly on exceptional skill as a songwriter. Compositions from his pen have found their way onto recordings by James Lee Stanley, Bob Dylan, Jim Post, Richie Havens, and Bonnie Koloc.

Profile Records issued his first album, Restless State of Grace, in 1987; among its tracks stand “Until My Heart Finds Out,” “Now That I’m Naked,” “Daughter Divine,” and “Where It Goes When It’s Gone.” Almost a decade passed before Bishop completed another collection, Feed Me a Dream, which Coyote Records brought out in 1996 and which includes the selections “Things We Said Today” and “I Built My Own Prison.” He further collaborated on the musical-theater piece Book of the Night and supplied the score for the motion picture American Reel.
