Thomas Lunch, who hails from Virginia but later made Washington, D.C. his home, crafts a dynamic and semi-experimental fusion of indie-electro rock inspired by the likes of Brian Eno, Talking Heads, the Ramones, and Sonic Youth. In January 2006 he inked a deal with San Diego-based Hi-Fi Alliance, resulting in the release of his debut full-length Diagrams Without Instructions before the year concluded. Theron Day handled the bulk of recording duties as co-producer and engineer, yet Tony Lash—credited with Elliott Smith and the Dandy Warhols—mixed several tracks, among them “You Are My Drug” and the album’s first shaking single, “Fire Puppy.” The record was promoted through extensive energetic North American and overseas shows, where Lunch performed vocals and guitar while his backing band featured Day on bass, Adam Weiss on drums, and Pete Sanderson-Kilchenstein on synths and sequencers.
