Details about Thomas Preston remain scarce and uncertain. He might have directed the choristers of Magdalen College starting from 1543, and possibly served as organist along with choirmaster duties at Trinity College from 1548 until 1552. Additionally, he is noted as the playwright of the dramatic work produced in 1560 titled "Cambises." Compositions credited to him exhibit mastery over four-voice counterpoint alongside impressive keyboard technique. "The Mass for Easter Day," an unfinished piece, is sometimes credited to Thomas Preston and viewed as his principal composition, though full evaluation proves difficult given the surviving manuscript's fragmentary state.
