Formed in Liverpool, Merseyside, England, the quartet consisted of Pete Beckett handling vocals and guitar, Phil Boardman on lead guitar, Dave Croft behind the drums, and Alan Hornby on bass. At first the musicians worked strictly as a support unit for local vocalist Tiffany under the name Tiffany’s Thoughts. In that role they cut two singles for Parlophone Records, “I Know” and “Find Out What’s Happening,” and also supplied backing for other area performers such as Paul Dean and Johnny And John.

Switching to Planet Records in 1966, the musicians stepped forward under their own name, the Thoughts, with the coupling “All Night Stand” backed by “Memory Of Your Love.” For its era the A-side stood out as unusually bold in subject matter; the track was a Ray Davies song the Kinks themselves never cut, and Shel Talmy handled production. Chart momentum failed to materialize, however, and the group disbanded, after which Beckett went on to join Paladin.
