Three Quarter Skies serves as the solo-band outlet for Simon Scott, longtime drummer with Slowdive. The venture blends Motorik rhythms and Krautrock textures through layers of guitars, processed vocals, and modular synths, first surfacing in 2023 via the EP Universal Flames; its inaugural full-length album, Fade In, followed twelve months afterward.

Simon Scott, drummer for Slowdive, has long maintained parallel pursuits that range from ambient and field-recording work to production duties for Whitelands and deary, alongside operating his own mastering studio. An opportunity arose when a last-minute performance of material originally intended for Slowdive proved incompatible with that group’s direction, prompting the launch of Three Quarter Skies. Scott shaped seven pieces from those improvisational foundations into the 2023 release Universal Flames, a collection that merged droning soundscapes, Motorik drumming, and ethereal vocals, including a guest appearance by Dottie of deary on the track “Opener.” The set drew from an array of touchstones spanning Neu!, Flying Saucer Attack, John Cage, and Black Sabbath. In December the Christmas-themed song “Holy Water” surfaced as a limited split single shared with deary.

By 2024 Scott found himself overflowing with fresh ideas for the project. After his mother’s passing he channeled both creative momentum and personal loss into a batch of emotionally charged, more incensed songs that became Fade In, issued toward the end of that year.
