Biography
Three Years Down ignites old-school punk from within a hard-rock garage setting. Their gritty vocals rail against a devious lifestyle while heavy guitar riffs launch the track “Rawk ’n’ Roll Partay.” The resulting Stooges-meets-Motorhead molotov rocktail aligns with garage-revival acts such as Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs, Electric Frankenstein, and the Supersuckers, groups that have shared stages with Three Years Down.
Frontman/guitarist Jason Phillips and lead guitarist Matthew Seth Kilbourn launched Three Years Down in Oakland, CA, during 1994 and navigated multiple lineup shifts over the next four years. Bassist Bob Lindsey and drummer Dave E.C.—previously of Filth, the Vagrants/Pot Valiant, the Wynona Riders, and Green Day prior to Tre Cool—joined in 1995. One year and one debut album, Kill the Cool, later, Thomas Becker of the Get Up Kids took over the drum chair. In 1997 guitarist Joe Selby, known from toyboat and the Wynona Riders, replaced Lindsey. Once the roster stabilized as Kilbourn, Phillips, Selby, and the returning E.C. in 1998, the band recorded its second full-length, Creepy Baby, issued in 2000. Avid Turbonegro admirers, the quartet contributed “Self-Destructo Bust” to the Bitzcore Records tribute compilation Alpha Motherfuckers, which appeared in May 2001. Their third album, Snakes Bite, is slated for release in summer 2001.
