Biography
Tianna Esperanza produces music of striking intensity and expansive imagination, blending an array of sonic palettes to frame lyrics rooted in her own vivid and often turbulent life story. On her first album, Terror, issued in 2023, she channeled verses of hardship, social critique, and selfhood through textures that stretched from relaxed hip-hop to propulsive punk rhythms.
Raised in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Esperanza began crafting poetry and songs as a teenager. Her earliest independent tracks leaned into a jazz-tinged approach that sometimes crossed into spoken-word territory. In the early 2020s she entered a recording agreement with BMG and started issuing material ahead of her debut full-length. Those singles shifted character from one cut to the next, moving between soulful crooning and sudden punk outbursts, as heard on the 2022 release “Princess Slit and the Raincoat Prince,” a track drawn from the life of her grandmother Paloma McLardy, better known as Palmolive and a co-founder of post-punk legends the Slits.
Terror examined trauma and pain while also touching on lighter themes, and it included appearances by Valerie June, Mick Flannery, and Rachael Yamagata before reaching listeners in February 2023.
