At the turn of the millennium, Tiger Saw first assembled inside a Los Angeles hotel room and shaped a singular indie aesthetic. The lineup featured Dylan Metrano on guitar and vocals, Juliet Nelson contributing cello and vocals, Matt Kulick behind the drums, Jacob Trussell on bass, and John Ryan Gallagher handling guitar. Soon afterward the musicians returned to their coastal hometown of Newburyport, MA, and settled in. Although Metrano had already issued How to be Timeless Tonight himself in 1999 under the Tiger Saw name, the group’s official debut arrived in 2001 as Blessed Are the Trials We Will Find on Kimchee Records. The album wove jazzy rhythms around an air of lyrical purity and drew comparisons to Ida, Songs: Ohia, and Lambchop. Three years later the band followed with Gimme Danger/Gimme Sweetness.
