Tigo B

Monty Faulkner records as Tigo B, a rapper who also sings on occasion and signals his stylistic breadth through song titles that stretch from “Ball Hard” to “Black in America.” Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, he surfaced near the end of the 2000s with the single “Ooh Wee,” one entry in a long series of joint recordings with Ricco Barrino. That number appeared among the selections on Times Up (2010), the MC’s debut mixtape presented by DJ E Sudd. Follow-up projects illustrated his facility with trap rhythms, weathered soul loops, and throbbing slow-jam arrangements. While issuing multiple singles under his own name and contributing guest verses to other artists’ tracks, he also released Return of the Artist (2013), Rise: A Gemini Story (2014), The Preylude EP (2015), and Playa Trap (2016).
