Before discovering his own voice as a performer, Tim Halperin absorbed the catalog of the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, and Billy Joel while training on piano and writing his own material. By the time he stepped onto the 2010 season of American Idol, the singer/songwriter/pianist had already issued a debut EP, though he exited before reaching the Top Ten. Audiences warmed to the genial contestant partly because he became one of the earliest participants to unveil an original composition on the show. His voice merges contemporary and vintage pop sensibilities, earning nods to Jason Mraz, the Fray, Ben Folds, and Coldplay. In December 2011 he unveiled his first post-Idol album, Rise and Fall. Twelve months afterward came the holiday EP Under That Christmas Spell, which featured a duet with Hayley Orrantia, an alumna of the inaugural U.S. edition of The X Factor. After opening shows for the Fray and Lee Ann Womack, Halperin delivered the sophomore LP Heart Tells Your Head in the first months of 2014. He stayed busy through the ensuing seasons, rolling out numerous singles alongside the 2015 EP Searching for the Same Thing. Tracks such as the 2017 releases “Light Up” and “Forever Starts Today” highlighted his gift for crafting sincere, frequently uplifting pop anthems. Starting with the buoyant “Weightless” in early 2018, he began rolling out singles from the upcoming third album Chances.
