Biography
Timbaland & Magoo formed as a hip-hop duo based in Norfolk, Virginia. They first connected during their teenage years in the early 1990s and continued to collaborate on music sporadically while each pursued individual paths into the industry. Timbaland gained recognition as an emerging producer by the middle of the decade and scored his initial successes in 1996, including work on Ginuwine’s “Pony,” SWV’s “Can We,” and Aaliyah’s “One in a Million.” Magoo contributed songwriting to several Ginuwine projects and to Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott’s debut album Supa Dupa Fly, which also contained multiple productions from Timbaland. In 1997 the pair committed to recording as a duo and issued their first full-length project, Welcome to Our World, that autumn. The album was launched by the single “Up Jumps da’ Boogie,” which featured Missy Elliott and Aaliyah and reached the Top Ten on the R&B chart. Following the turn of the century they delivered Indecent Proposal in 2001 and Under Construction, Pt. II in 2003.
