Timothy Monger State Park operates as a Southeast Michigan rock outfit led by its founder, vocalist, and guitarist of the same name. The group’s first EP, Knight Errand, surfaced in 2021 and delivered a radiant fusion of psych-infused power pop and folk-rock that echoed the inventive melodic approach of predecessors such as Robyn Hitchcock & the Egyptians and Michael Penn.

Established in 2010 at the onset of a lengthy break for Monger’s prior ensemble Great Lakes Myth Society, the band initially concentrated on live performances, touring throughout Michigan with a fluid roster of experienced players drawn from the region’s active indie community. Over the ensuing ten years, participants from acts including Starling Electric, Saturday Looks Good to Me, Matt Jones & the Reconstruction, and Lightning Love passed through the lineup, and several of those same musicians also supplied substantial contributions to Monger’s solo recordings.

Early in 2020, refreshed by both veteran and newly enlisted personnel, the ensemble entered its first dedicated studio sessions together. Drawing from the oblique lyric style of Guided by Voices, British folk-rock traditions, and the gentler strains of psychedelia, the musicians laid down the three-song sequence Knight Errand directly to tape during one afternoon. Presented as a sonic and fleeting partnership with Philadelphia designer Dan Shepelavy, the EP appeared in October 2021 through Northern Detective and Universal Exports of North America.
