Biography
Titanic emerges from the intersection of jazz, chamber pop, and contemporary composition as a joint project involving Guatemalan cellist and vocalist Mabe Fratti alongside Mexican multi-instrumentalist Héctor Tosta. Acclaim has come to Fratti for her experimental electro-acoustic work, whereas Tosta previously recorded under the name Il La Católica. The Mexico City-based pair issued their first full-length effort, Vidrio, during 2023.
Since the late 2010s Fratti has issued recordings under her own name, steadily assembling a body of avant-garde, noise, classical, and ethereal-pop material as an exploratory cellist, composer, and singer. Within the same local scene Tosta has frequently collaborated and contributed to her solo sessions. The pair initiated Titanic by capturing jointly written material, beginning in their home studio before shifting to Pedro y el Lobo Studios, where engineer Santiago Parra assisted. Saxophonist Jarrett Gilgore and drummer Gibran Andrade lent support as Fratti and Tosta shaped an elegant yet uncategorizable set. Guitar, piano, strings, and Fratti’s ethereal vocals form the central instrumentation on the debut, which blends jazz, experimental pop, and chamber-music elements. Unheard of Hope, an imprint of Tin Angel, released the free-flowing Vidrio in October 2023.
