Born in New York, Tito Puente Jr. is the offspring of the iconic Latin music figure referred to as Rey del Timbal. In his hometown, he pursued studies in music and composition, which led him to participate in a heavy metal group before shifting his focus toward Latin music through various local performances, eventually relocating to Miami. His first record, Guarachando, issued by EMI Latin in 1996 and including the timeless track "Oye Como Va," earned him a Billboard accolade for best video the following year. The skilled artist, whose work blends Afro-Caribbean rhythms with Latin jazz and club/dance elements, followed up with Sientelo, crafted under the production of A.B. Quintanilla and Larry Davis.
