In 1983 producer and keyboardist Tetsuya Komuro teamed with vocalist Takashi Utsunomiya and guitarist Naoto Kine to launch the Japanese pop outfit TM Network, later known as TMN for Time Machine Network. Victory in a talent contest that year led directly to the release of the band’s debut single “Take It to the Lucky,” which was followed in April 1984 by the album Rainbow Rainbow. Three further albums appeared before the group scored its breakthrough with the hit single “Get Wild” from Gifts for Frank. After issuing 1990’s Rhythm Red the act shortened its name to TMN and produced only two additional LPs before dissolving in 1994. Utsunomiya and Kine each launched solo careers in the immediate aftermath. The posthumous greatest-hits compilation Time Capsule -- All the Singles topped the Japanese charts in late 1996.
