Biography
Born in Hammond, Louisiana, in 1982, Todd O'Neill emerged as a country performer whose wide-ranging approach also embraced R&B and rock & roll elements. Raised in a rural setting where television signals were weak yet musical appreciation within the household ran deep, he developed early admiration for Merle Haggard, George Jones, Otis Redding, and regional Cajun traditions. By his mid-teens he had mastered guitar and begun singing, forming the group Big Cat Daddy at age 17 and committing to a professional music path by 20. Experience across multiple ensembles—from 1980s tribute acts to honky-tonk country outfits—gave him practical grounding in the industry. Aria Records, a Nashville imprint, signed him in 2009 and issued his first full-length project, Real Life. A four-track EP titled Somethin' with Some Attitude appeared in 2013, followed in 2015 by the six-song Fast Lane, which included a duet with T. Graham Brown. O'Neill captured top honors in the 2016 Nash Next Challenge, a contest whose panel featured Kix Brooks of Brooks & Dunn, Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts, The Voice winner Danielle Bradbery, and Scott Borchetta of Big Machine Records. Victory earned him a Big Machine recording deal, and DeMarcus handled production on the label's inaugural O'Neill single, the R&B-tinged "Love Again."
