Biography
Told Slant operates as a solo-driven project anchored by songwriter and vocalist Felix Walworth, manifesting as an introspective indie rock endeavor rooted in Brooklyn. Their catalog showcases closely personal lyrics alongside an unpredictable self-produced aesthetic, yielding three albums so far, among them the 2020 release Point the Flashlight and Walk.
Walworth, a multi-instrumentalist whose primary focus remains percussion, developed amid a musical household shaped by father Danny Walworth, who played drums next to guitarist Thurston Moore in the Coachmen before that ensemble became Sonic Youth. During undergraduate studies at Bard College, the younger musician launched Told Slant. The debut album, Still Water, arrived via self-release in 2012 and carried an intimate, subtly unbalanced tone. As a founding participant in the Epoch, a New York arts collective that has featured other songwriter-led outfits including Eskimeaux (Gabrielle Smith), Florist (Emily Sprague), and Bellows (Oliver Kalb), Walworth later joined repeated tours and sessions with these and additional acts while working full-time as a musician. The follow-up record, Going By, came out via Double Double Whammy and Run for Cover Records in June 2016. After a further four-year gap, Walworth delivered the intense third album, Point the Flashlight and Walk, near the close of 2020.
