"Blue" Gene Tyranny trained under John Downey, Thom Mason, and Robert Wykes. Working as pianist and synthesist, he led the Electronic Music/Recording Studio at Washington University between 1971 and 1980. He also held the position of sound and music director at Innervision in St. Louis, MO, and produced the "Cooler in the Shade" series in NYC. In 1983 he collaborated with the late photographer Ernst Haas, while 1978 saw him give a live performance accompanying Fritz Lang's classic film Metropolis. His 1992 project Ejector Room consisted of an installation for videoed soloists and electronics.
