Biography
A British composer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, Tom Howe has built a reputation through his film and television scores while also creating off-kilter indie pop as part of Adult Jazz. Previously active as a session musician across both pop and classical fields, his scoring career began in the late 2000s with contributions to television documentaries including How the Celts Saved Britain in 2009 and America: The Story of Us in 2010. The 2011 reality series Love Thy Neighbor came next, and that same year he collaborated with Gary Go on the music for the romantic comedy Love’s Kitchen. Additional television assignments in documentaries and reality formats continued at a consistent pace over the ensuing years.
During this period, founders Harry Burgess, Tim Slater, and Steve Wells invited Howe to become the fourth official member of the Leeds, England-based indie band Adult Jazz. Beyond co-writing and performing with the ensemble, he handled production, engineering, and mixing duties for the group’s debut album, Gist Is, which appeared on their independent label Spare Thought in 2014. The band subsequently toured the U.K., performed at festivals such as CMJ and Latitude, and played at David Byrne’s Meltdown festival in 2015. Their second album, Earrings Off!, was issued in spring 2016 on Tri Angle.
After moving to Hollywood, Howe composed for projects that included the CNN series Finding Jesus in 2015, the Disney Channel’s The Lodge in 2016, and the feature film Lost & Found that same year, along with various other television programs. His most prominent assignment to date arrived when he supplied additional music and programming for Rupert Gregson-Williams’ score to the DC Comics blockbuster Wonder Woman, which opened in June 2017. He next wrote the original score for the biographical film Professor Marston & the Wonder Women, centered on the creator of Wonder Woman; Sony Classical issued the Gregson-Williams-produced orchestral recording to align with the October 2017 theatrical release. In 2018, his music appeared in the Canadian animated feature Charming, which included vocal performances by Demi Lovato, Sia, Ashley Tisdale, and Avril Lavigne.
