Biography
Hailing originally from Sweden under the birth name Hardy Nilsson, Tommy 16 channeled the sounds of Teenage Fanclub and Big Star within their native scene. The lineup featured Urban Holmberg on vocals and guitar, Lars Hall handling guitar and vocals, Jan Pettersson on guitar, Niclas Marklund also on guitar, Mikael Eriksson on bass, and Patrik Sundqvist on drums; radio exposure arrived promptly once their debut single, titled "#1 single," entered rotation. After inking a deal with the regional indie imprint A West Side Foundation, the group cemented status as Swedish pop icons via their inaugural full-length, Shauna. The 1997 singles "Racerboy" and "Come on, Come on (Please Let Me See It)" preceded the arrival of their sophomore album Big Rocking Buddha, which surfaced that year in tandem with the band’s inaugural extensive Swedish tour.
