Tommy Dodson, who plays both piano and saxophone, waited until his forties before redirecting his energies toward music. He had received early training on piano and saxophone in Ft. Scott, Kansas elementary schools and later studied cello during junior high, yet those pursuits were set aside while he built a career as an AT&T administrator.

After his divorce in the mid-1990s, Dodson reentered the music world and served four years, from 1997 to 2001, as a cabaret performer aboard the Crystal Cruise Line. His first album, Millenium, appeared in 1997, with the follow-up What A Wonderful World arriving three years afterward.

As the son of a saxophone player who performed with the Erskine Hawkins Orchestra, Dodson drew strong influence from the smooth, sophisticated style of Nat King Cole. He maintains a steady schedule of five performances each week in southern California’s Laguna Beach, taking the stage at French 75 on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and at the Savanna Steak and Chop House on Fridays and Saturdays.
