Biography
An American power pop outfit from the early 1980s, Tommy Tutone featured Tommy Heath on vocals alongside guitarist Jim Keller. Their opening single, 1980’s “Angel Say No,” registered only a faint presence inside the U.S. Top 40, but the 1981 release “867-5309/Jenny” carried the band much higher, climbing to number four and achieving gold certification after peaking in early 1982. Further commercial momentum proved elusive, and the group dissolved once their third album, National Emotion, appeared in 1983.
Heath revived the Tommy Tutone name in 1994 for the album Nervous Love, an anthology of tracks recorded after the original lineup had ended. He maintained sporadic activity under the moniker across the following two decades, issuing Tutone.rtf in 1998. The 2011 summer reissue of Nervous Love arrived under the retitled banner A Long Time Ago.
