Born Antonio Henderson in Detroit in 1984, Tone-Tone attended Finney High School and took up rapping at nine years old. The Detroit native launched his recording career in 2004, issuing his first album, Skoolz in Session, on the independent local imprint Wide Open Records after turning eighteen. The project generated regional attention through the radio-supported single “I Ain’t Playin’ Witcha,” as well as the track “What Up Doe.” Shortly afterward he secured a deal with Sho’nuff Records, the imprint run by producer Jazze Pha, and began issuing his own mixtapes via New Skool Entertainment, including Strictly fo da Streetz in 2005, Ride with Cha Boy in 2006, and Motivation for da New Generation in 2007. The association with Jazze Pha yielded no further releases, prompting Tone-Tone to return to Wide Open Records for his follow-up LP, D-Boy Fresh, which arrived in 2007 and featured the single “Luv da Way She Doin’ It.”
