Tony DeMarco entered the world in Brooklyn, NY, on May 20, 1955, into a household steeped in music. Long regarded as a prominent and highly regarded presence on the Irish fiddle scene, he has built a career exceeding thirty years through mastery of the Sligo fiddling approach, working alongside Celtic Thunder, Black 47, and fellow fiddler Brian Conway. His introduction to traditional fiddle playing occurred in the early 1970s while he pursued studies in American folk music; deeper exploration of those musical origins soon drew him to the Sligo style, which takes its name from the Irish county. Midway through the decade he traveled to County Sligo itself to immerse in the tradition, an experience that directly resulted in his partnership with Brian Conway. The recording that emerged from their joint efforts, the album Apple in Winter, appeared in 1981. Across subsequent years DeMarco has established himself as a leading advocate for Irish fiddle music in the United States, performing at festivals throughout the country and overseas while also taking the stage at the Smithsonian Institution. In 2008 he issued the album The Sligo Indians.
